112 MATTER ARISING
Edinburgh Park and Corstorphine Post
The Convener advised that he had explored the possibility of the Methodist Church being the employer of the post holder in the event of the Church of Scotland not wishing to do so. He confirmed that the Methodist Church is able to consider doing so and provide the human resources function.
Lewis Rose reported that the Treasurer and Interim Moderator of Corstorphine Old Parish Church had been in contact with him requesting news of progress in the appointment.
113 CHURCH OF SCOTLAND REVIEW
It was noted that prior to the meeting of Council it had been agreed that the Rev Dr Martin Scott, Council Secretary of the Ministries Council of the Church of Scotland, be given permission to address Council members with details of proposals from the Ministries Council for the future of Workplace Chaplaincy and SCIM Council.
These proposals were noted with interest and thanks.
It had been agreed with Dr Scott that a formal paper detailing the proposals would be prepared by the Ministries Council before further discussions could occur.
On receipt of this document it was agreed that the Secretary distribute it to all Council members (including those who do not attend Council meetings) and also to the team of chaplains and the Industrial Mission Trust with a request for comments to be returned within 4 – 6 weeks.
It was noted that the Ministries Council meets next on 12 February 2009 and that the above document may need its authorisation before being distributed.
The following additional points were also noted.
- It would be helpful to obtain the date of the Salvesen Trust document which
released funds to the Church of Scotland for outreach and which have been used to finance industrial mission activities.
- The Industrial Mission Trust to be informed of the process.
- Correspondence for the Baptist Union to be sent to its General Secretary until a
new representative is appointed.
114 AREA ORGANISER VACANCIES
It was noted that the Church of Scotland has appointed the Very Rev Dr Sandy McDonald as a locum to Greater Glasgow for an initial period of 3 months.
115 REPORT FROM NATIONAL CO-ORDINATOR
The report from the National Co-ordinator was tabled (see Appendix).
